I bought this diary today from The Hach :) It's by the Korean company MMMG (Millimeter Milligram). It's going to be my new "happiness diary"!
I recently saw this TED talk on happiness and how happiness leads to success, not vice versa. I always think that studying harder or doing better at something will make me happier, but, just as the guy describes in his talk, it doesn't really work that way. Reaching a goal just means I set a new one. Yes, I'm the one who gets 98% and asks, "where'd that other 2% go?"
His proposed solution to "reverse the formula" and become "positive in the present" seems pretty simple. Every day, record three gratitudes, write a short journal about a positive experience, do 30 minutes of exercise, meditate for five minutes, and do a random act of kindness.
Do any of you do these tasks regularly? Thoughts?
I've been thinking about gratitudes since I watched this talk, and I've noticed that committing to recording them really does make me consciously scan for them throughout the day, helping me focus more on the positive and less on the negative.
Here's the talk! (It also happens to be really funny!)
